WORLD-VIEW

I’ve always been amazed that so many Christians can read the same Bible and have many different beliefs. This is why there are so many different denominations. I’m also amazed when several scientists view the same archaeological evidence, and come to very different conclusions, especially concerning the age of the earth, dinosaurs, and other fossils.

It’s the same with politics. Democrats and Republicans are now so far apart in beliefs and ideas that it seems there’s not even a few issues we can agree on. It all comes down to our worldview. Our worldview, or how we look at the world, determines everything else we believe, as well as how we act, and how we treat others in our everyday lives.

That’s why it’s very important to have a “Biblical Worldview.” In other words, we need to see the world through the lens of God’s holy word, the Bible. You may ask, What good is a biblical worldview when there are so many different opinions, and interpretations of God’s word? That’s a good question. The answer is simple. The Bible says spiritual things are spiritually discerned (1 Corinthians 2:13-14). Jesus said, Everyone must be born again (John 3: 1-7).

There are many people who claim to be Christians, but do not bear the fruits of a Christian. Jesus said his Born Again followers will be known by their fruits, which are the works or deeds that they do (Matthew 7:16). Nobody knows everything, no matter how close we are to God, but if a person is not born again, with the Holy Spirit living inside, they cannot understand the Bible correctly.

Unfortunately, there are many people who have not been born again, but claim to be Christians simply because they believe God exists. They don’t believe IN God, they just believe there IS a God, and they think that makes them a Christian. When Jesus returns, those people will be in the group that Jesus tells to depart from him because he never knew them. They never knew him, nor had a relationship with him.

The Bible is an awesome book. It’s God’s instructions to every human on how to be saved, and what to do after we’re saved. We need the Holy Spirit to help us understand the word of God, and to help us carry out his instructions.

If you haven’t been born again and become a new creature with the Holy Spirit living in your mind, then you’re not saved. Just believing that God exists does not save us. The Bible says the demons believe, but they’re certainly not saved (James 2:9). We must be born again for the blood of Jesus to wash away our sins, and to inherit eternal life.

Jesus loves you so much that he suffered and died to save you. He wants you to live with him forever, so don’t wait another minute. Trust in Jesus right now. Repent and be born again, and receive eternal life (Romans 6:23; John 3:16).

6 DAYS OF CREATION OR 6000 YEARS?

“In the beginning, GOD created the heaven and the earth.” That’s the introduction line to the creation story from Genesis, the first book in the Holy Bible. In the article titled *IN THE BEGINNING, we saw what the Bible means by “In The Beginning.” It refers to the time when God created our solar system, with the sun, the moon, the stars, and all the planets, including the earth, and everything in it. In the article called *IS THE BIBLE REALLY GOD’S WORD? We also established that the Bible really was prepared for us by God, and has been preserved for us for about six thousand years. The men who wrote the Bible were inspired to do so by the Holy Spirit of God, and he inspired them with what to write (2 Timothy 3:16 & 2 Peter 1:21).

For this study, we’ll look at the Six Days of Creation. There are several beliefs about the beginning of our world. You’ve probably heard all of them that I have, but only one of them can be true. I believe God created everything just like the Bible says, so I reject the Evolution Theory, and that’s all it is; a theory. If you believe in Evolution, please stay with me. I want you to see that the Bible can be trusted, and so can God. By the way, I once believed in Evolution, but God led me to the truth through his word.

The strange thing is, I believed in God as well as evolution, and I saw no conflict with believing in both. Then, I started studying the Bible, and it all made perfect sense. Today, many Christians, who love God, are embracing Evolution as a possible way for our world to have become populated. This lessens God’s role and really makes him just another god among many. Some have embraced the teaching that each day of the creation week lasted a thousand years. Others believe the six days were just extended periods of time, which could have been millions of years. Neither group believes these were six literal, twenty-four-hour days. These beliefs and teachings are destroying people’s faith in God and the Bible, and it’s being done from within the church as well as from without.

How do we fix this problem? Well, I truly believe the main problem is that people don’t read and study the Bible. Some may listen to a preacher speak once or twice a week, but never study to see if what they’re being told is true or not. This is happening more and more. The solution is for everyone to grab a Bible, and start reading and studying so we can all understand for ourselves what God has to say to us in his Holy Book.

The Apostle Paul said the people who lived in the town of Berea studied the scriptures daily to see if what they were being taught was true (Acts 17:11). That’s exactly what all of us need to be doing today. It’s the only way to avoid being deceived.

Using less than ten references from the Bible, we’ll see that the creation week WAS six literal days, and NOT six thousand years, or any extended period of time.

2 Peter 3:7-9
7. But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
8. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day.
9. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

Psalms 90:2-4
2. Before the mountains were brought forth, or before you ever had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.
3. You turn man to destruction; and say Return, you children of men.
4. For a thousand years in your sight are only as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

Neither of these scriptures says a thousand years IS a day.
The “thousand years are AS one day” simply means God is not restrained by time. God is everlasting, and has always existed and always will. In his scope of time, a thousand years is only a moment. That’s what these verses mean. The following verses show that the six days of creation week WERE literal 24-hour days.

Genesis 1:1
1. In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.
2. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4. And God saw the light, and saw that it was good: and God separated the light from the darkness.
5. And God called the light Day, and he called the darkness, Night. And the evening and the morning was the first day.

8. ….And the evening and the morning was the second day.
13. And the evening and the morning was the third day.
19. And the evening and the morning was the fourth day.
23. And the evening and the morning was the fifth day.
31. And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning was the sixth day.

Evening and Morning = Night and Day = A literal day.

The next verses give even more proof.

Exodus 20:8-11
8. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work:
10. But the Seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God: in it, you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor the stranger that is within your gates:
11. Because in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything that is in them, and he rested the Seventh day: Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Exodus 31:16-18
16. Therefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
17. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: because in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the Seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

When we obey God and keep the Sabbath every week, we’re not celebrating to commemorate the fact that God created everything in 6,000 years. No, these verses tell us that he created the heavens and the earth and the sea and everything that is in them, in six literal days. Then he rested on the Seventh-day. This is where the seven-day week comes from. So we see from the Bible that God created the heavens and the earth, actually our solar system, in six literal days.

NOAH'S ARK AND THE GREAT FLOOD

The story of Noah’s Ark and the worldwide flood has been one of my favorite Bible stories since I was a child. I’ve read it many times, and I believe it actually happened. Here are a few reasons why I believe it. History tells us that Jesus of Nazareth actually existed, and he talked about Noah and the flood. There is plenty of evidence all over our planet that there was a worldwide flood, and we have already established that the Bible IS the word of God, in the article called IS THE BIBLE REALLY GOD’S WORD? *

Many books have been written, and several movies have been made about this amazing story, but many of them are filled with error, speculation, and misinterpretation. Even in the church, there are disagreements about what actually happened. No wonder there are so many doubts and so much confusion about the flood.

You may ask, Why does it even matter? Well, the credibility of God’s word is at stake. If it didn’t really happen then the rest of the Bible can’t be trusted. Jesus said it happened, so if it didn’t, then Jesus would be a liar. Do you see now why it matters?

Jesus said, “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free” (John 8:32). When you read, and understand the truth of this story, it will make perfect sense and it’s very believable. When you truly understand it, your faith in God’s word will increase. Please, take out your Bible and examine this wonderful story along with me.

In the beginning, God created a perfect world and two people who were perfect. You can read about that in the post called IN THE BEGINNING. **

Adam and Eve disobeyed God, and sin came into our world. Their son, Cain, was jealous of his brother, Abel, so he killed him, and from that point on their descendants became more and more evil.

Genesis 6:5-7
5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of mankind was great in the earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of their hearts were only evil continually.
6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him in his heart.
7 And the LORD said, I will destroy mankind, whom I have created from the face of the earth; both humans, and beasts, and the creeping things, and the fowls of the air; for it repents me that I have made them.

God saw how wicked his creation had become, and he decided to purge the earth from all the evil. Being the loving Father he is, he wanted to give the people some time to turn from their sins, and do right. That’s the case throughout the Bible. He always gives people time, and opportunity to repent. But it’s usually a certain amount of time, as it was in the days of Noah. We can see this in the next verse.

Genesis 6:3
3 And the LORD said, My spirit will not always strive with man, for that he is also flesh: yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.

This is where the belief came from that Noah spent 120 years building the ark, but is that what the verse says? No. We’ll see in a few minutes that it did not take that long. All this verse is saying is that God’s Spirit would continue to work with mankind, and try to get them to change for 120 more years. He gave them time to repent, and to turn from their evil ways. Basically, he put them on probation for 120 years. They didn’t change, so the time came to destroy the earth.

Genesis 6:8-9
8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

God saw that one man was faithful to him. Noah had not become corrupt like the rest of the world. Look at the next three verses carefully.

Genesis 6:9
9 These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

Genesis 6:10
10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

Genesis 5:32
32 Noah was five hundred years old, and begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

Clearly, this is the same man and the same three sons mentioned in chapters 5 and 6. The way the Bible is written, the writer gives an overview of the story, and then comes back, and gives more details. This was the way in the ancient Hebrew culture. This was done to reinforce the story in the minds of the persons reading, or hearing it. We find this principle throughout the bible, but today this sometimes leads to confusion for people who don’t understand this principle.

Some strange teachings have come from the bible because many people don’t understand this. One such teaching is two different creations in Genesis chapters 1, 2, and 5. These two accounts are NOT two different creations. Both are the same event, involving the same two people, with the same names, but with more details added. This means that all the details are not always in chronological order in the Bible. The same story is often retold, with more details added, or sometimes there are less details. With that in mind, let’s keep going.

Genesis 5:32
32 Noah was five hundred years old, and begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

These three sons were born to Noah, and THEN God came to him and told him to build the ark. Not before they were born, but AFTER. That’s important (Genesis 6:9-14).

Genesis 7:6
6 Noah was six hundred years old …when the flood came.

Genesis 11:10
10 Shem was a hundred years old, two years after the flood:

That means Shem was 98 years old the year of the flood. That’s only 98 years, or less from the time God told Noah to build the ark until the flood came. That’s proof it didn’t take 120 years to build the ark. Again, the 120 years was a period of probation for mankind. It took less than 98 years to build the ark. Probably a lot less.

Another fact we shouldn’t overlook is that when the Bible says Noah was 500 years old and begat three sons, it simply means they were born in his 500th year; not the same year, but in that 100-year period. Notice that Noah was 600 when the flood came, and Shem was 98. That means Shem was born when Noah was 502.

Genesis 10:21 says that Japheth was the oldest, and Genesis 9:24 says that Ham was the youngest. So Shem was the middle son. If we name them from oldest to youngest, we should say, Japheth, Shem, and Ham. Japheth was probably born when Noah was 500 years old. Genesis 6:18 seems to say that all three boys were already married when God told Noah to build the ark, so that knocks several more years off the building time since they would have had to be grown men to marry.

Read Genesis chapters 6 and 7 very carefully. This time, these are not the same accounts retold. Notice the order of events. In chapter 5, Noah’s three sons are born.
THEN, in chapter 6, God told Noah that he was going to destroy the earth and everything on it.
THEN, God told Noah to build an ark and told him how he should build it.
THEN, God gave Noah instructions on bringing the animals, and food onto the ark.
THEN, Noah started building the ark. We don’t know exactly how long it took to build the ark, but we do know it was less than 98 years. Probably a lot less.

Obviously, some time went by between the end of chapter 6 and chapter 7 while the ark was under construction because, at the beginning of chapter 7, the ark is finished. God tells Noah he has seven days before the flood comes. He uses these seven days to get all the animals on the ark, and food for the animals, and for themselves.

Noah didn’t have to go out and gather the animals like most books and movies show. God said the animals would come to Noah, and that’s exactly what happened (Gen. 6:20, 7:9). He didn’t load animals from every SPECIES. There were some from every KIND. Two pigs, two dogs, two camels, etc. Seven pairs of clean animals, such as goats, sheep, deer, cows, and birds. Not nearly as many animals as some think. God is smart. He probably sent young animals. They would be smaller, so they wouldn’t take up much space, and they would live longer and produce more young to repopulate the earth.

In Genesis 7:1-4, the ark is finished. THEN God told Noah it was time to get into the ark. THEN he told Noah he had 7 days before the flood. He had to have time to get the animals and the food on the ark. He used those 7 days to do that.

THEN, at the end of the seven days, after he had done everything that God had instructed him to do, Noah and his family got on the ark.
THEN, God shut the door.
THEN, the rain came.

The flood came the same day Noah and his family entered the ark; not seven days later. Genesis 7:4, 7:11, 7:13, and Luke 17:26-29 make this absolutely clear. Read these few verses carefully.

Genesis 7:11
11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, THE SAME DAY all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.

Genesis 7:13
13 In THE SAME DAY, Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, entered into the ark;

The Bible says Noah and his family got aboard the ark the same day the flood started.

Luke 17:26-29
26 And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.
27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until THE day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built;
29 But THE SAME DAY that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all.

Again, the flood came the SAME DAY that Noah and his family entered the ark, not seven days later. The SAME DAY = The 17th day of the 2nd month.

Genesis 7:12 says it rained for 40 days AND 40 nights. Verse 11 says the windows of heaven were opened AND the fountains of the great deep were broken up. Strong’s Concordance says the Hebrew word used here for “broken up” means the same thing as “Split, Tear, Break, Rip, or Burst”. So the waters that were under the earth Burst out when the earth split open. This is how the fault lines were created across our planet.

Genesis 7:21
21 And all flesh died that moved on the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, and EVERY man.

If it wasn’t on the ark with Noah and his family, it died (Gen. 7:21-23).

Genesis 7:24 says the water covered the earth for 150 days, then God remembered Noah and all the animals and caused the water to start receding. They continued to decrease. Then on the 10 day of the 11th month, Noah started sending out a raven and a dove to see if the water had dried up, but it wasn’t. They went back and forth until the water was dried up (Gen. 8:7-11).

In the 600th year of Noah’s life, on the 17th day of the 2nd month, Noah and his family entered the ark and the flood started (Gen. 7:11, 13).
In the 601st year of Noah’s life, on the 27th day of the 2nd month, Noah and his family left the ark with the animals (Gen. 8:14).

So they were on the ark for 1 year and 10 days. Wow! What an adventure that must have been, and what a different world it must have been to return to. What an amazing story to read and study. It never gets old.

Here Are Some Facts To Remember:

1) Noah was on the ark for 1 year and 10 days. — (Gen. 7:11, 13; Gen. 8:14)
2) God sent the animals to the ark. Noah didn’t have to go out and gather them. — (Gen. 6:19-20)
3) 2 of each unclean animal (1 pair – a male & a female), and 7 pairs of the clean animals got on the ark. — (Gen. 7:2-3)
4) At least 2 of every KIND of land creatures and flying creatures got on the ark. That would include dinosaurs and Pterodactyls. (Probably small, young ones) — (Gen. 6:13-19; Gen. 7:2-3; Gen.14-16)
5) The Bible says Adam was the 1st man on earth. — (1 Cor. 15:45; Gen. 1:27, 5:3; Matt. 19:4; 1 Chro. 1:1; Luk. 3:38)
6) There was no sin before Adam sinned. — (Rom. 5:12, Gen. 3:1-24). There was no death before sin because sin brought death. — (Rom. 5:14-19)
So dinosaurs could not have lived and died before Adam.
7) God created the heavens and the earth and everything in them (including Dinosaurs) in 6 literal days. — (Exodus 20:8-11) (The 4th Commandment)

There’s so much more to this story, but we have to stop somewhere. As I said, we have secular proof that Jesus was real. He talked about Noah and the flood, so Noah was real, and the great worldwide flood was real, and it WAS worldwide (Gen 8:9). This is a subject of many debates and arguments. Any confusion on any Bible subjects can usually be cleared up, just by reading and prayerfully studying God’s word.

IN THE BEGINNING

In The Beginning, God created the heaven and the earth (Genesis 1:1).
1) WHAT DOES THE BIBLE MEAN BY “IN THE BEGINNING?”
Hebrews 1:10
10 And, you Lord, in the beginning, have laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the works of your hands.
Isaiah 40:21
21 Have you not known? Have you not heard? Have you not been told from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
Isaiah 64:4
4 For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither has the eye seen, O God, beside you, what he has prepared for him that waits for him.
Act 15:18
18 Known to God are all his works from the beginning of the world.
Ephesians 3:9
9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world has been hidden in God, who created all things through Jesus Christ:
2 Peter 3:4
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
So “In The Beginning”, in Genesis 1:1, the bible is referring to the beginning of our world; the creation, not just of the earth and its atmosphere, but our entire solar system; Our Galaxy. That leads to some other questions.
2) WHEN WERE ADAM AND EVE CREATED?
Matthew 19:4
4 And he answered and said to them, Have you not read, that he who made them at the beginning made them male and female,
Mark 10:6
6 But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female.
The Bible tells us that God made Adam and Eve at the beginning of our world. He made them on the 6th day (Gen 1:24-31)
3) WERE THERE OTHER PEOPLE BEFORE GOD CREATED ADAM AND EVE?
1 Corinthians 15:45
45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul;
The Bible plainly says that Adam was THE FIRST MAN on earth. Look at the genealogy in the books of 1 Chronicles and Luke.
1 Chronicle 1:1
1 Adam, Seth, Enos,
Luke 3:38
38 Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.
In 1 Chronicles 1, the genealogy of mankind starts with Adam and moves forward toward Jesus. In Luke 3, it starts with Jesus and goes backward to Adam, then says he was the son of God. Clearly, Adam WAS the first man, and he was created by God at the beginning of this world. Look at the next 2 verses.
Genesis 2:20
20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field.
Genesis 3:20
20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve because she was the mother of all living.
These verses show Adam naming the living creatures God had created, including his wife, Eve. Gen. 3:20 also confirms that Eve was the FIRST woman. She was the mother of the human race.
Genesis 5:1-2
1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, he made him in the likeness of God;
2 He created them male and female, and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day that they were created.
Some people believe Genesis chapter five refers to the second time man was created after some catastrophe wiped out the world. We have already seen from the Bible that Adam and Eve were the FIRST people on the earth. Chapter 5 is a recap of the beginning. Look back in Genesis chapter four, and you’ll see Adam and Eve have three sons; Cain, Abel, and Seth. In Genesis chapter five we see Adam and Eve have a son named Seth to replace Abel, the son Cain killed. Clearly, these two accounts refer to the same people. How anyone could say these are two different stories involving different people is beyond me.
Genesis 4:25
25 And Adam knew his wife again; and she gave birth to a son and called his name Seth, and she said, for God, has given me another child instead of Abel, whom Cain killed.
Genesis 5:4
4 And all the days of Adam after Seth was born were eight hundred years, and he had sons and daughters:
This process of retelling events is used throughout the Bible. There is a story, and later a recap or synopsis, usually adding more details. Look at the story of Noah and the flood in Genesis chapters 6-8, for example.
4) DID DINOSAURS LIVE MILLIONS OF YEARS AGO?
Romans 5:14
14 Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam to Moses,
Romans 5:12
12 Just as sin entered into the world through one man, and death through sin, so death is passed on to everyone because all have sinned:
1 Corinthians 15:21-22
21 Since death came through one man, the resurrection of the dead came through one man also.
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all will be made alive.
There was no death before Adam sinned. Death entered our world because Adam disobeyed God. The Bible says Adam was the FIRST man on earth, and DEATH came from his disobedience. Therefore, Dinosaurs could not have lived and Died before man, millions of years ago because there was no death before Adam sinned.
God created dinosaurs along with all the other land animals on the sixth day before he created Adam. Then he brought all the animals to Adam to see what he would call them (Gen. 1:25).
5) DID GOD TAKE THOUSANDS OF YEARS TO CREATE EVERYTHING?
2 Peter 3:8
8 But, beloved, do not be ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years and a thousand years is as one day.
This verse has been used by some to say a day in scripture equals a thousand years, or some extended period of time, trying to reconcile the Bible with “scientific” reasoning that the earth is billions of years old. We need to line our “scientific” discoveries up with the teachings of God’s word, not the other way around. God’s word has its own dictionary. The meaning of most things we read in the Bible is found somewhere in the holy scriptures. The next verse explains what 2 Peter 3:8 means.
Psalm 90:4
4 For a thousand years in your eyes are as only yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.
This verse explains that a thousand years to God is just a small amount of time.
In Numbers chapter 7, when the tabernacle in the wilderness was finished and it came time to dedicate the altar, God told Moses to have the Princes of Israel bring their offering, one tribe each day. This took 12 days; 12 literal days, not 12 extended periods of time. Why would this passage of scripture be literal 24 hour days, and Genesis chapter 1 not be literal days?
Exodus 20:8-11 says
8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work:
10 But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God: in it, you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates:
Why? Read the next verse carefully.
Exodus 20:11
11 Because, in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and He rested the seventh day. So the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
Here, we are commanded to remember the Sabbath Day and keep it holy because God created the heaven and earth and everything in them in six literal days, NOT 6 extended periods of time, NOT 6000 years. He worked 6 literal days and rested on the 7th day. We are to work 6 literal days then rest on the 7th day. Plus, at the end of each day, the Bible records that the EVENING and the MORNING (Night and Day) was the 1st day, the 2nd day, etc. Therefore these verses prove a literal 6-day creation.
6) WHAT ABOUT “THE HEAVEN” IN GENESIS 1:1?
Genesis 1:1
1 In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.
Notice that the heaven is singular, not plural.
Exodus 20:11
11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. So the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
Genesis 1:6-8 shows the creation of the heaven.
Genesis 1:6 -8
6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the middle of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
7 And God made the firmament and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament, and it was so.
8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning was the second day.
In the Hebrew language, the word firmament means EXPANSION or EXPANSE. In English, it means a space. We simply call it SPACE.
Notice that the SPACE God made to separate the water did not stop at our atmosphere.
Genesis 1:14-15
14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven (SPACE) to divide the day from the night, and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years,
15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, and it was so.
7) WHAT WERE THESE LIGHTS?
Genesis 1:16-18
16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also.
17  And God put them in the firmament (space) of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
18  And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness, and God saw that it was good.
Jeremiah 31:35
Thus says the LORD, who gives the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divides the sea when the waves thereof roar. The LORD of hosts is his name:
Clearly, these lights that God created and put in (the) SPACE are the Sun and Moon. Notice, he had already made the Stars at some earlier time. The firmament stretchered out into space. The firmament IS space, where our galaxy, our solar system, was created by God, IN THE BEGINNING of our world.
